You can check it by putting an ice cube on the crystal.
Any moisture present inside the watch case will cause fogging to appear on the inside of the crystal.

I don't have a wife because I anticipate that she would wind my watch in the bath. I'm taking proactive measures to make sure I never have to deal with that situation.

wondering...how would one have responded if a wife was caught winding your Rolex while taking a bath & it had a leather strap?

The moral of the story is buy your wife her own Rolex. Alternatively, make her wear boxing gloves in the house and tie the thumbs together and then she won't be able to mess with your watches

So, if the crown is out, water is introduced via fingers winding and setting the watch and then the crown is screwed back down over water now trapped under the crown, where does that trapped water go?

Water likely won't get in there because it's an over-pressure void. Water would have to displace, forcefully, the air above the seal. It's similar to taking an empty glass and submerging it upside down in a tub of water - it doesn't suddenly fill up with water.

If any moisture did get in there, it wouldn't be much, and it can't get past the seals inside the tube, so it will just stay there until the next time you open the crown - then it might show up on the threads but it still won't get in the watch.

The lesson of all this is to keep your watch serviced and the seals refreshed, then you never have to worry about it.

This thread has blossomed into an instant classic, and will live in TRF infamy! Great mix of invaluable tech references, and ridiculous/hilarious innuendos.

I would, you never know when a bit of guilt from her might just come in handy.

Should make a list of weird places to wind your Rolex, I'll start.

In the bathtub...

Gentlemen, do yourselves a favor. Keep your watches, cigars, expensive liquor and all else you value AWAY from the wives/girlfriends/children. Then we won't have threads like this where the OP is all freaked out about the possibility of water in his watch. A decent safe is a wise/inexpensive investment!

either that or choose a wife/girlfriend with 'common sense' & a consideration for other people's belongings.

I agree. You might be able to pull off buying anther Rolex out of this ordeal. Just be sad and glum about how the inside of your watch is going to rust out. She'll WANT you to buy another Rolex just to clear the air. Do it.
