Whenever I travel, I wear my dad's 1973 Datejust that he gave me before he passed. I wouldn't call it a "beater," but it's somewhat under the radar so I don't worry about being robbed for it. And I feel like my dad is with me on my travels. I know. I'm a softie.

I would not wear a "beater" for travel, I wear it for my part time work to save my good watches from getting scratched. They are Sinn watches and could not be classed as cheap watches by any stretch of the imagination but are very tough and do not mark on my manual job. They also don't look flash or like watches that cost over a thousand pounds.

I can't think of many places safer than Europe and would certainly wear my Rolex and Grand Seiko on trips abroad.

I am big on trying to wear the right watch for the activity. Seiko is a lot of watch for the money and I can not say enough good things about my Turtle.

I am exactly the same - I ended up buying a preowned Speedy which whilst a significant loss if it were to be stolen or misplaced would not be a heart breaker

I guess it depends on how you treat the things you own.

I do not "beat" anything, ever.

I bought a BLNR for travel so I guess that would be my "beater" although I try to take care of it. I wear it in the ocean, out to dinner, hiking, sightseeing . . .
