I personally can’t stand damage -er, em “patina” on a dial. Case wear, bumps and bruised from life is fine but dial damage implies moisture problems or prolonged exposure to heat...and lord knows what that did the movement- dried out all the oil moiustere=
rust, etc. How long before that owner who allowed that to happen took it for service.
In terms of the OP’s question- that’s badly damaged, but if original, worth keeping as part of the kit. I would throw a service dial in to enjoy the watch and if I ever plan to sell it, include bot dials and allow the next owner to choose how they want it.

Yes it’s damage but so is even the slightest patina (as mentioned above). So where do you draw the line? I’ll tell you where, you draw the line... where YOU like it.

I’d happily wear the watch that has that dial, would I want to pay a premium for it or actively search one out with that much damage? no I wouldn’t.

I’d like to think it was worth less than a minter and I get people’s frustration that dealers big these things up but you have to understand someone out there will ‘get’ that dial. In the same way a lot of people ‘get’ yellow/brown lume when years ago it would have been only worthy of the bin and just as laughable.

Given the option of that dial being kept or thrown in a bin and replaced with a new white lume dial I know what I’d take.

A tropical dial occurs naturally...this dial is 100% damage. Any dealer who describes this as tropical is clueless and should be avoided.
