well just to keep everyone posted, this has been resolved and (at least for the moment!) all is well. got the watch back a second time and the bezel looks as good as new (appears they got rid of some minor swirls I’d had in the process of removing their scuff).

I still think their “bedside manner” left a little something to be desired, but they also threw in a leather travel case so that’s at least something.

and I suppose I owe everyone a few pics after all this...

Excellent! Pleased you have it back in brand new condition. When something goes wrong, AP really are superb at making it right.

Congrats on getting it back. Frustrating to be without the watch for so long but put it behind you and wear that puppy!

What does the travel case they throw in look like?

I'm at the office and don't have it here to snap a photo but it's basically a black cube with leather exterior and a button closure on one side. Inside is just a removable soft pillow. It's note the most impressive swag I've ever gotten (and not the most space-efficient travel case--I have a couple of leather pouches and a watch roll I'll probably continue using instead of this)--but it's the thought that counts!

Happy to post a photo of it when I'm back home if you like.

not accepted at all my friend, a brand new watch shouldn't do this.
in Saudi Arabia for any failure reason during warranty limits as per the law either they give you Alternative watch or for everyday you do not benefit the watch,You are compensated as per this equation (item price divided on 106 USD) for everyday is not used

It looks good on you. I’d push for a better travel case in light of all the drama. The one your watch has been returned with is the standard service box that all watches are returned from service with.

Scary for a 15450 to have failed after just a few months?

lol well that certainly puts their "generosity" in perspective... the first time they serviced it they didn't give me that box so maybe they were just stiffing me the first time. seems awkward to ask them for something more now that I've had the watch back for some time though, no?

Sounds like a disaster, i wouldn’t be happy. I would probably have pushed for the new watch immediately when they told you it required a service immediately after purchase.

These things happen thankfully it was fixed and everything is sorted, I personally would try to get another watch allocation like 15500st blue maybe? to make up for this mess.

No worries. Wear your AP in good health. I just got the same watch recently (2 weeks ago) so I’m a bit jumpy about it as well. My research indicates that they usually get it right the first warranty service so yours will most likely be okay moving forward.

APs are so captivating but its finicky nature stops me from acquiring multiple pieces like I did with Rolex. With Rolex you can even forget to wear one for 6 months, wind it and it just runs flawlessly.

Cheers!

Sounds to me like this is the case Ash is talking about - cube shaped dark brown leatherette. Nice to have, but pretty useless in functionality. The other option is a weird shaped green plastic case, which is equally useless. I'm left puzzled why a brand like AP can't commission an attractive yet functional travel case.

In my opinion the ideal design is the Oakley Vault. It can house any watch, is very strong, and can be put in a pocket at airport etc. One of those in AP green with logo would be an excellent, and useful, inexpensive brand gift.

I’m using this one on my holiday, I’ve had it for a couple of years and it seems to be very good, it’s a sturdy outer shell and probably offers as much protection as I need.

Don't mean to play devils advocate here but every now and then I get customer complaints about scratches that "weren't there before." This one time a customer brought in a 6263 to open up after winning it earlier at an auction. I put plastic wrap around the watch and open it up. Show it to the client. Everything is ok. Close it back up just as carefully and hand it back. Then the customer turns red and points to a scratch or blemish that wasn't there before, or to be more specific it wasn't there when he bought it and he put it on his wrist, and enjoyed wearing for half a day before coming to us. I've learned that people don't tend to inspect their watches as much as when they get it back.

sounds like maybe your carefully handling a vintage watch in front of a customer while covered in plastic wrap isn’t super analogous to AP taking my brand new watch for a month, shipping it across the country twice and having it handled by several people along the way?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Though I do have a problem with the QC department. We sent in a tourbillon for service and got it back with a broken escape wheel. Makes me wonder if they inspected anything before shipping the watch.
